Lakeview Ranch: Curly Missouri Fox Trotters

Welcome to Lakeview Jersey Dairy.

 We started in 1988 building our own dairy barn.  We planned it out and built a level floor stanchion barn with 4 hanging stanchions with feeders cut out of barrels.  We brought in cows 4 at a time.  We first started with 13 Jersey Heifers and now, in 2009, we are milking right at 50 head.  We have 14 first time heifers due in May and June 2009.

After milking for years in this level floor barn, one day I was squatted down stripping a cow out that had mastitis when she got upset and picked up her leg to warn me that she was going to kick.  I hurried up and stood up and she let me have it in the right knee.  Within hours my knee turned black and blue and swelled twice the size.  Went to doctor in Springfield, Mo and found out she had torn ligaments and cartlidge.  I was scheduled for surgery within weeks.  Took several months to heal.  So, we decided it was time to add onto the dairy barn and make a pit barn.

We hired a man that was suppose to do all the work and do the work in stages and get paid in stages.  Well, he got half of it done and then left us high and dry.  With help from my brother in law, Ralph, we finished the drain lines and then fianlly got the double 6 barn done in about 3 months.  This barn was finished in 1996.
